New Starts

I won’t be posting here anymore and I have no intention of renewing this site when it expires in May.  However, on a bit of a whim, I decided to start a new blog.  Yes. You can find me here and I’d love if you stopped by to say hello.

Goodbye 2015, Hello 2016

It’s been a good year.  A busy year.  Our oldest turned two and our youngest turned one in 2015.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Like I said, busy!  But so good!  Our little family has gone through so much growth, in a hard yet incredibly great way.  I quasi participated in One Little Word in 2015 and picked gratitude.  It was the perfect word and I am, indeed, grateful for SO much.  There were so many moments where life’s imperfections made themselves known this past year and that little word, gratitude, would pop into my head in the best possible way.  Gratitude was such a great reminder of all the things I already knew in my heart.

Blogging really took a back seat for me the last half of this year.  I’ve become really interested in getting back in shape (which I’ve mentioned before).  I still have a long way to go, but I’ve also come a long way – which is exciting and encouraging.  I can hardly believe that I’ve become a person that gets up at 515 am to exercise 3-4x a week!  It’s still a struggle.  Every morning I argue with myself about whether or not I really need to get up and wouldn’t staying in bed be so much better?  The answer is get up because hashtag neverregretaworkout is actually true.  (Unless you are seriously ill, like with the flu, then perhaps you might regret working out.)

I am in no way a “fitness” expert but I’ve invested a more of my time and effort into learning and exercising for the past half year.  I have always been interested in fitness and have worked out here and there for most of my adult life.  This is just the first time I have been consistent for this amount of time.  I’m actually surprised by myself.  Truth be told, I think that my back to back pregnancies and exhaustion related to being a new mom and breast feeding really spurred my fitness interest.

Carrying my children and nourishing them during that first year of each of their lives was such a gift.  I’m not eloquent enough to put words into describe pregnancy or nursing, so I’m not even going to even try.  If you have done either, you understand and if you haven’t then you can perhaps imagine.  You can also imagine or know that both pregnancy and nursing is constricting in a sense and there are moments where you feel like you just want your body to be your own.  I’m grateful for both feelings – the awesomeness of pregnancy and breast feeding as well as the urge it created in me to seek out a fitter healthier lifestyle.

My healthier and fitter lifestyle is really simple.  I definitely don’t want it to come across that I’m this super athlete that eats super clean healthy foods all the time because that’s just not the case.  At all.  I’m just a gal that exercises moderately and eats healthier than I did before.  I’ve probably over explained myself here.

In 2015 Matt and I attempted a Year of Dates.  And we did really well!  Once football season rolled around, however, we pretty much just had time to make it to football games and not any extra date-dates.  I’m going to go ahead and say that the football games still counted as dates because they were  fun, it was just the two of us, and it was quality time together.

My babies are growing and talking and learning and doing so much.  I’m realizing that we are about to be out of the baby-baby phase and that is giving me some major sentimental feels.  Oh motherhood!  What can I say???? It’s the best, it’s the hardest, but really it’s just the best at the end of the day.  I would say more, but I’m still trying to determine the degree to which I want to share their lives online.

I’m not sure what 2016 will bring but I’m hoping for more vacations, some home improvement projects (maybe even a new home?? (big maybe)), more date nights, more family adventures, more creativity, a completed half marathon (yes! hopefully!!), girlfriend dates, crushing fitness goals, and just lots of fun.  I’ve got my brand new planners ready to go (I love me a fresh new planner!) and my word for 2016 is Brave.

Brave as in: I want to be brave and put myself out there a little more, be brave and not allow the (possible) opinions of others to bring me down or prevent me from doing something I really want to do, be brave and train for that half marathon (yes!), be brave and ask for help, be brave and create something big or something small, be brave and go for it.

Happy New Year to you and yours. <3 I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to this past year and what you’re looking forward to in 2016.

Dear Elaine Marie,

It’s your very first birthday and what a whirlwind of a year it was. When Daddy and I very first learned that you were on your way we were completely surprised. I have to tell you that I love a good surprise, and goodness, I love love you. You complete our family of four and you, my sweet girl, belong.

When I think of some of your defining characteristics I immediately think of how smart, affectionate, courageous, and adventurous you are. You want to run before you can walk, you want to climb everything, and you want to know, see, and do. You’re tiny but mighty and you have the voice to prove it. You’re a loving girl and give the sweetest snuggles to Mama, Daddy, and your big sister. You adore soft and cuddly toys, soft blankies, and bath time.  You like to drop things and say “uh oh” in your sweet voice.

As you continue to grow and discover the world around you, my heart hopes and prays that life allows you to know, see, and do the all the good and wonderful things that are meant for you. I pray that you are healthy and protected, that you are filled with joy, and that you achieve your biggest dreams.

Elaine I hope that you always know that you are worthy and loved. I will always be grateful to be known as your Mama and I will love you forever.

All my love,

Written on E’s 1st birthday, August 13th, 2015.
p.s. Stay tuned for several one year old birthday posts – you’ve been warned 😉

M+AK+E June

{Disclaimer: Oh my goodness I realize this is beyond late!  And I was halfway tempted to skip the June edition all together, but for the sake of the photo book at the end of the year I pulled through. Life has seemed extra busy lately with summer and family and just stuff. You know how it is.}

In 2015 I’m doing a monthly mother/daughter photo project documenting 5 of our favorite things. At the end of the year I plan on making a photo book of all these photos. See all these mother/daughter favorites here.

Anyhow, here’s what we were diggin’ in June:

Reading >> M – The Age of Desire, AK – B is for Breakdancing Bear, E – Five Little Ladybugs

Working On >> M – Expecting Alice, AK – naming colors, E – grabbing and throwing everything off of the coffee table

Playing With >> M- the concept of meal prep, AK – tea, E – ladybug

Loving >> M – our new rug, AK – cartoons, E – all things soft and cuddly

Noteworthy >> M – attempting to establish a consistent workout routine, AK – first haircut!, E – standing and cruising everywhere

Tell me, what have you and your loved ones been into lately?

I finally ordered hard copy prints of some of our personal family photos.  Over the weekend I took some time to sort through them and decide which ones I wanted in frames. I also ended up with a pile of photos I wanted to take into the office and pin up at my desk. Then I had a pile of leftover photos that I wasn’t quite sure what to do with.

With a bit of washi tape I decided to put them up on our fridge. It does look a little cluttered, but I figured it looks better than the collection of random magnets and take out menus that were hanging out there previously. Plus Alice is so into looking at photos these days. She loves being held and pointing at all the photos around the house and hearing the names of everyone pictured. Over and over and over again 😉

Anyhow back to family photos, how do you like to display your own personal photos in your home? I want to do a gallery type wall of family photos somewhere in our house but don’t necessarily want it to be the main focus in our living room.  I love our personal photos but want to find a way to display them in an attractive manner…

On the other hand, I also want to do another gallery type display of random sentimental things and photos (not necessarily of people) behind the TV media center in our living room, sort of like this or this. We really don’t have a ton of wall space for framed photos, plus how many gallery type wall displays can one room/house really have? I don’t want to go overboard and I do already have this collection of botanical prints.  I’m sort of having a hard time deciding what to do. First world problems, I know.

What do you do with framed photos and art?!  I’d love to hear and even better, would love to see if you have a link of what you’ve done in your own home.

p.s. See also DIY botanical prints.

Mama & AK (8.5 months)Mama & AK (8.5 months)

Oh hello! Here we are, alive and well. Living the every day life… being a mom, being a wife, working, laundry, washing bottle after bottle, and going to be bed at an absurdly early hour night after night.

Oh and reading. I’ve been reading up a storm and will have to share with you some of my most recent favorites.

Also if you are reading this now, I’m so glad! In a state of OCD-ness I decided my blog url just had to match my blog name. Which turned into a mess. I had the hardest time implementing the new url and now cannot figure out how to forward my old blog url to my new blog url…blah, blah, blah. Also my links no longer work, so bear with me for who knows how long. I’m in no way tech savvy.

So what I’m trying to say is if I haven’t lost you in the internets abyss, I’m super duper glad and would love it if you could update however you subscribe to this blog to my new url which, by the way, matches my blog name. So fancy, I know.

And you? What’s new with you? I’ve missed your little notes here.
