Oh Hey

Here are some things I’d like you to know:

+ We are going on another vacation this year. !!!! To Denver to visit the same dear friends we visited last Spring. After feeling like vacations were a distant memory in that phase of we have two babies under two years old, two vacations feels like we won the lottery. We’re bringing the kids and we are so looking forward to a long a weekend away.

+ ALSO I got to have a long girls’ weekend in Austin this year. I know. It’s crazy.  Plus the kids were sick as I was literally driving down the road.  Matt called and said both girls just threw up on themselves in their carseats.  #cringe  Before you think I’m a horrible mom, I offered to turn around three times but my darling husband told me to go on.  Thankful for him and my mother in law who helped out all weekend.

+ Matt and I have taken to having (almost) weekly lunch dates at our favorite authentic Mexican food place. He picks me up from work on my lunch hour and off we go. It’s so nice having that time, just the two of us to chat. Also the Wednesday special: puerco en salsa verde is ahhhhmazing. I get it every single time.

+ I scratched Run a Half Marathon off my bucket list. It truly was an amazing experience. I wish I would’ve written about it much sooner when the memories and endorphins were fresh. I crossed the finish line in just under 2 hours and 10 minutes, and I was pleased as punch with that time. My average pace was about 9:40 and I just cannot say what a great experience the entire thing was – from training, to crossing the finish line, to seeing all the runners and supporters, to my sweet family waiting for me at the end. I’m grateful for it all.

+ In keeping with one little word for 2016 I embarked on a new business adventure with Rodan and Fields. I’ve been intrigued by this company for years and this was the year I took the plunge. First, I love quality of the products, I love how my skin feels, I love helping people feel great about their own skin, and I’m also loving the business side of things. I’m stretching and growing and being challenged in ways that are so new to me.  Of course I’d love to share with you if you are at all interested.

How are you?  It’s been a while.

Five Years

Matt and I celebrated our five year anniversary this year in Mexico.  Specifically we stayed at the Excellence Cancun Riveria based off several recommendations from different and unrelated people.  It’s an all inclusive adults only resort and fit our bill for low key and worry free.  We had a super lovely time.

We drank, we lounged, we read and read and read, we went to the spa and got massages and hydrotherapy, we ate, then we ate some more.  It was so amazing to be able to sit and just be.   Then I got really stir crazy and demanded that we get up and actually go do at least one thing.  Turns out I have a limit on how much lounging and relaxing I can handle.  (Two days is lovely, three days is really pushing it.) So we went on an excursion and had a really great time! I’m sure I’ll post about our day away from the resort someday soon.  (hahahaha – “soon”)

I’m so glad that we were able to have this time together.  We haven’t been on a “real” vacation since before our oldest daughter was born – she’ll be three in May!  We returned refreshed and super excited to see our girls.

p.s.  Unrelated thoughts: While I was in the shower I had an idea for a new blog name!  I know, I blog so much right?   I’ve actually had quite a few different blog names but nothing ever seems “quite right” – because it matters #sarcasm.  Turns out motherhood, marriage, work, and laundry take up a lot of time.  But I love writing and sharing photos… I can’t quite call it quits and so sometimes random ideas hit me.

Beach Suggestions

Matt and I are hoping to take a relaxing beach vacation early next year to celebrate our five year wedding annivesary!!! (Doesn’t five years seem so long and like a drop in the bucket all at once?) Do you have any fabulous beach destination suggestions? We are just starting to brainstorm. Mexico is a strong contender… (I’ve never been!). An all inclusive adults only resort is right up our alley. Something nice but not toooooo expensive.

Denver in May

Last month Matt and I took both our girls to Denver.  It was our first vacation as a family of four.  It was the first time either of the girls had ever been on an airplane.  Which means it was the first time we travelled as parents with two kids on an airplane.

We survived.  Barely.

I’m kidding.  It was fine and worth it! I won’t say it was easy because that would be a blatant lie.  Is anything “easy” when traveling with little people aged 2 years and 9 months?  (Two car seats, luggage, a back pack, a carry on, strollers, one person stays with the kids and luggage while the other parks the car, waiting for the strollers at curbside check for 30 minutes with two tired kids, changing diapers in an airport bathroom, etc, etc…you can imagine).

I will say that this trip was the “easiest” it could have been as far as family vacations go.  We stayed with our close friends at their lovely home in their awesome neighborhood.  (By awesome neighborhood I mean incredible neighborhood with the friendliest neighbors.  We seriously had the itch to go home pack up our house and move in next door.)  We had two bedrooms to ourselves, which is amazing when you have kids in tow.  The direct flight from Oklahoma City to Denver is just a little over an hour, so relatively short.  Our friends have a little boy, Alice’s age, and they played together perfectly.  All those factors made it an ideal first family vacation.

We did a lot of relaxing.  Eating at home, playing basketball, hanging in pj’s, drinking coffee, drinking cold beers outside, riding bikes, going on walks.  We went out to eat, maybe once or twice, and then our friends hosted a cook-out one afternoon.  The entire trip was low key and awesome.

The best part about vacation, besides the location and the break from the daily grind, are the people you’re with.  I’m pretty sure our friends, Adam and Marie,  are our family vacation soul mates.  We always seem to be on the same page and enjoy each other’s company so much.  Before we left we were already making plans for our next family get together.  Can’t wait!

And just like that, our five day trip was up.  One rough late afternoon flight later and we were back in Oklahoma City.  I will forever love vacations but there’s something about returning home after some time away.  It’s literally like slipping into your favorite pj’s and sighing in contentment.

Mini Baby-Moon Getaway
We headed South to Ft Worth for a mini Babymoon this past weekend.  In my mind I had pictured a very low key relaxing weekend, which is exactly what it turned out to be.
Unfortunately, right after dinner, on our first night in town, I misjudged the step-down from a curb & rolled my ankle.  It was terribly painful & we were so nervous I’d done some serious damage based on the amount of pain I was in.  With a newly walking toddler and being almost 8 months pregnant you can imagine how untimely any kind of injury would be! Luckily as the weekend progressed the pain lessened.  I’m still hobbling around but am hoping to be in tip top shape by the middle of this week.
We  had booked a room at the Omni downtown and spent most of our time eating lots of good food and taking lots of naps.   With my injured ankle our low key weekend became even more low-key than originally planned.  We did, however, make it to Ikea which Matt loved so, so much! (Ha! #sarcasm).  Good news is that Alice now has a brand new dresser for her new room which is a relief to mark off the ole To Do List.
It was really awesome to have an adults get away.  We loaded up on R&R which was the ultimate goal seeing as in about 6 weeks relaxing will be non-existent with a newborn & toddler around!
Come Sunday we were both super happy to be reunited with our sweet girl.  I felt like she grew a mile and her walking skills increased 10 fold!  She got in some important quality time with her Lola and Grandpa while we were away.  (Many thanks to my parents for keeping our Baby Bird for the weekend!)
How was your weekend?  What do you think about Baby-Moons?  Have you ever taken one?

Honeymoon Recollections

At the end of last week I received an email offering 25% off prints from Mpix.  This prompted me to go through our photos and order some hard copy prints. (I’m so terrible at ordering prints to frame!  Anyone else like this?)  I thought it would also be a good time to order some larger photos that I’d been wanting from our 2011 Honeymoon in NYC.  Well as expected, going through all our photos made me feel pretty nostalgic.  In a totally good way.

We had such an amazing time exploring and cannot wait to make a return visit to the city where we chose to celebrate the start of our lifelong love.  (Ah cheesiness, can’t help it!)  I <3 NYC

See also our honeymoon in much more detail:

Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5 & 6

p.s. Mpix is actually now offering a 50% off sale on 8×10 and 11×14 prints by using the code SUMMER14.  A little better than my 25% off discount, dang!

Memorial Day Weekend in West Texas

Fam Reunion Memorial Day Weekend12

Happy Memorial Day!  Hope you all are spending it with loved ones and having a relaxing and fun time.  We actually went to West Texas for Matt’s family reunion this weekend which was a lot of fun but quite different than times we’ve gone in the past.  This time around we had a one year old to look after and I’m feeling every bit of 6.5 months pregnant.  Regardless it was so nice to get out into the country and spend time with family!

someone is not into taking a selfie

We think Alice had an overall good time although I think she was in sensory overload. (Please excuse her greasy looking hair she was loaded up on sun block and insect repellent.) This weekend was the first time I’ve ever seen her exhibit any kind of “stranger danger” behavior.   She only wanted to be held by her dad, her grandparents, or me (mostly me).

All the fresh air and new people just tuckered our little girl right out! She took the longest naps while we were there (in her grandparents airstream). Then yesterday, back home, she took two naps for a combined time of FIVE hours after sleeping all night the night before!

We were so lucky to have overcast and drizzly weather all weekend which was such a nice change from previous Memorial Day weekends when the weather was scorching hot. I don’t know if my pregnant self could’ve handled 100 degree weather! We didn’t get a ton of rain while we were there… which is unfortunate for the area because apparently they’ve been in a bit of a drought as evidenced by the super low ponds (FYI those docks are supposed to be going into the water).

Oh nothing, just shooting a potato gun.

p.s. The last time we were at the West Texas Ranch (here and here) in 2012.  (We didn’t go last summer since we had a brand new baby on our hands)
